Children of Blood and Bone

Children of Blood and Bone Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orïsha, #1)   by   Tomi Adeyemi     River 's review  Mar 10, 2019   ·    edit it was ok ⭐⭐  2/5 bookshelves:  awesomely-romantic ,  badass-heroines ,  not-the-best-not-the-worst ,  super-cliche   It was a fun story and a great plot but it wasn't super special. I think that the problem with this story is that its super predictable. I knew what was going to happen from minute 1. It was very similar to most books you read. The characters weren't well developed. They started one way and stayed that way with no kind of character development or anything. Also for being the work of a Harvard graduate the book had really low vocab. Its perfect for a chill read at the beach or something because it isn't super heavy. The plot is fun, the story is interesting and the characters are charming and loyal to a crazy ext...

The Silenced Cry: One Woman's Diary of a Journey to Afghanistan The Silenced Cry: One Woman's Diary of a Journey to Afghanistan   by   Anna Tortajada   Mar 07, 2019   · liked it The story was good but kind of dull and I didn't particularly enjoy the translation. This book was originally written in Catalan and it was clear that it was a translation because it wasn't very good. I loved the purpose of the book because it was truly necessary to raise awareness of what happened and primary sources are so much more trustable than secondary account. I applaud at the bravery to enter Afganistan at the period of Taliban ocupation👏👏👏. Yet there was something missing. It was slow and more like a reflection than anything. The translation was truly bad and that didn't add to the quality of the book.

A Grain of Wheat

A Grain of Wheat A Grain of Wheat   by   Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o   River 's review  Mar 01, 2019   ·    edit it was ok This book was ok. It was on Kenyan Independence and the Five days leading up to Independence. In a small village called Thabai, these five days are heartbreaking and destructive. This book was very confusing for three reasons 1) It had a lot of characters with names I'm not used to. I'm used to names like Sally and Bob but these were names like Mugo and Mumbi. This made it difficult to identify characters with actions.2) The time was messed up. I was not sure when we were. This is a book that is supposed to be about five days but tries to cover the whole suffering of a nation. It kept jumping around moving from one end to another. In a sentence, a man could be born, achieve greatness and die, which just made it hard to follow. 3)There were a lot of characters and it followed all of them. A long section woul...

A Court of Mist and Fury

A Court of Mist and Fury   A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2)   by   Sarah J. Maas     River 's review  Feb 24, 2019   ·    edit really liked it bookshelves:  badass-heroines ,  awesomely-romantic Oh My God The first book in A Court of Thorns and Roses series was slow moving and not the best. Normally sequels aren't as good as the first book and I was scared that A Court of Mist and fury would be similar. How wrong I was. A Court of Mist and Fury is so much better than  A Court of Thorns and Roses ! The characters were so much better developed and much more connectable. The story took off from close to the beginning and lasted through the book. You learned so much more about all the High Courts and  (view spoiler) . I did have some problems with the character developed because I felt that the high priests was underdeveloped. Overall I loved this book and fou...
